Description:
Ageism is endemic in our society. Every piece of research commissioned puts age as the most commonly experienced discrimination, above racism and sexism. We need a radical new approach to challenge this ageist culture which is damaging to individuals, employers and the economy.
Employers have responsibility to ensure that their workplace is free from discrimination but this means challenging deep-seated beliefs and behaviours and routing out the covert ageism which is endemic - no easy task. In an age obsessed culture, to expect your employees to be age-blind is a tall order but there are lessons to be learned from the workplaces who have taken on the challenge.
So what action can employers take to challenge the ageist culture? What support do employers need from government and civil society? Does education and training have a role to play?
Hear from experts, share your thoughts and help the EFA come up with a Counter ageism blueprint.
