Forced Retirement on the rise as DRA ban nears

The number of older employees forced to retire has risen dramatically as concerns about the end of the default retirement age (DRA) grows among employers.

Statistics from Age UK have shown that the number of older workers forced to retire had jumped to about 100,000 in 2009 from an average of 25,000 for 2008 and 2007. And the figures for 2010 will present an even more depressing picture as firms cut staff before the law changes in October 2011, say experts.
