RIP DRA (1 October 2006 - 5 April 2011)

6 April 2011

The Regulations repealing the Default Retirement Age come into effect today.

Yesterday (5 April 2011) was the last day on which an employer could use the DRA procedure to notify an employee who is over 65, or will attain that age before 30 September this year of retirement.

From now on, retirement will cease to be a fair reason for dismissal and the retirement of an employee at any age will have to be capable of objective justification.
