Recruitment: It's ability not age

ASDA try to recruit a colleague base that reflects the local population. ASDA wants to mirror the local customer base more and provide better customer service. ASDA believe that to make the most effective use of colleagues' skills, employment decisions should be made simply by asking 'who is the best person for the job?' They hire for attitude - and train for skill.

ASDA recognise that colleagues of all ages can contribute to the business, so offer flexible hours and benefits that reflect the needs of different age groups, including carers leave and discounted healthcare. In Broadstairs, the ASDA new store opened with 40% of colleagues aged 50+ - which meant a truly diverse age mix. Jacki Connor from ASDA Colleague Relations.
