The end of Ageist UK plc starts here
19 October 1999

Employers Forum on Age website launches on Tuesday 19 October at www.efa.org.uk
  • Does age matter in today's workplace?
  • Is ageism in the workplace illegal?
  • What are the business benefits of employing and training older workers?
  • Are you losing out by not taking on younger workers?
  • What is the true cost of ageism to the UK economy?
All the answers to the key issues on age in the workplace can now be found on The Employers Forum on Age (EFA) new website at www.efa.org.uk. Online from today, 19 October 1999, the official EFA website provides a unique source of information for all businesses and individuals on age and employment in the UK.

Helen Garner, Campaign Director of the EFA, comments: 'We aim to be the leading authority on age in the workplace. By posting our reports, studies and research on the Internet we hope to increase knowledge and understanding of the damaging effects on age discrimination, and to help spread best-practice among employers much more widely both in the UK and overseas.'

The site is split into two areas - an unrestricted site containing general information for non-members and a restricted site for members only providing a specialist service for the 150 employers who are already members of the EFA.

The unrestricted site for non-members highlights the business benefits of employing and retaining older workers, including:
  • a list of EFA members and current good practice case studies
  • lists of EFA services and research publications
  • a fact file of UK demographic statistics
  • News Online - the EFA internet newsletter
  • details of Government initiatives
  • details of EFA events
The restricted site provides direct access to good practice case studies; research reports and member only fact sheets; regional fact sheets and a list of forthcoming events. There is also a Members' Forum in which comments, suggestions and ideas can be posted and responded to.

Helen Garner comments: 'The members' site will become a virtual network, drawing together employers from all parts of the UK to share everyday best practice and keeping them in constant touch with one another's latest developments. Such a network is both an invaluable aid to those employers at the cutting edge of change and those just beginning to look at the whole question of age.'
